This week in Debate, campers chose controversial topics that relate to schools, community, country and world. After topics were chosen, students researched the topics in depth before engaging in heated debates. Students have improved writing and public speaking skills as they prepare for debates. During cross-examination, students perfect their ability to think on their feet.
On some issues, students got to choose sides while on other issues they were challenged to argue in favor of a stance they personally opposed. Students practiced remaining unbiased in research and presentation. After each round, the debaters are given tips for improvement from instructors and peers. At the end of each debate, the class comes together to discuss how compromise can be achieved. Thank you campers for all your innovative and forward thinking. Keep up the hard work!
