Campers participating in the CSI Forensics course as a part of The Center for Growth and Innovation (CGI) are learning more about how to properly investigate a crime scene this week.
This morning, campers took advantage of a beautiful morning outside to create their own footprint castings in a sandbox. CGI Counselor and Philadelphia Police Department Crime Scene Investigator, Terry Louis, combined a compression compound with water to create a casting liquid that hardens when it touches another substance. Campers poured the liquid over their own footprints in the sand and waited for the castings to harden. Once it solidified over the footprints, campers analyze them as an investigator would do during a criminal investigation.
Mr. Louis also showed campers how to identify and examine different kinds of blood splatters. Using imitation blood and an eye dropper, campers tested blood splatters from three different heights on four different mediums. They made drops from 12 inches, 24 inches, and 36 inches high onto cardboard, lined paper, white construction paper, and cloth. Campers were fascinated are excited to learn more this week!
