The Center for Growth and Innovation has added a number of fun programs and courses to its growing list this summer. This week, there are five brand new courses being offered in addition to the 14 others already available to all ESF campers.
NEW AT CGI THIS WEEK…
Invention by Design – Dive into the world of inventions and design thinking as campers learn about famous inventors, life-changing inventions, devices and more! Experience the design process, collaborate with a team and transform ideas into super-cool inventions that will improve the world we live in. Friends and family will be invited to a culminating Invention Convention on the last day of camp this week.
Game Design with Project Spark – Campers will discover the world’s next best gaming experience… or create it for themselves! Microsoft’s Project Spark is an open world game engine that provides campers with a digital canvas where they can make games, movies and other experiences. Camp focuses on designing games in a rich 3D environment and also provides an introduction to Brains and Kodu programming.
Creative Problem Solving – Campers will stretch their imaginations, exercise critical thinking skills, and learn to solve problems like some of the greatest innovative thinkers! They’ll work as a team each day to complete various brain-busting, creative challenges including timed verbal problems, hands-on, building initiatives and exercises aimed at developing diverse methods to solve problems. ESF will provide opportunities for participants to capitalize upon the individual strengths of each team member while instilling within them the necessary skills to strategically solve tasks and optimize outcome.
Investigations in Math and Science – In this course, students will review mathematics topics and engage in science labs to prepare them for the rigors of high level mathematics and science courses. Students will complete hands-on activities that apply the mathematics topics while stimulating their minds and sharpening their skills such as a Dividing Up Hershey Bars activity, an Equations Scavenger Hunt, and a Wind-Up Car Speed and Distance Comparison lab. Data collection and analysis (including proper graphing techniques) will be emphasized during the lab activities.
Outdoor Leadership – Campers, get ready to discover your surroundings! Navigate with a map and compass. Create your own campground. Experience and practice problem solving and team building through mentally and physically challenging situations to build discipline, self confidence, compassion, and cooperation. Campers will overcome personal limitations, make discoveries, have fun, and learn vital life skills!
